Using Tags To Increase Traffic
Yes! Another question! I’m your Uncle Agony! And I luv it!
Anyway, here it is:
Name: Andrew Choong
Hi Adam, not sure if this is a dumb question but why do bloggers always have tags at the end of each post? Is it for search engine to find easily or just some keywords? I just converted my website into a blog and seems like I can never finish learning. Somehow, if possible, can you advise me on how I can improve my blog?
Ok Hi Andrew,
The reason is this…
Bloggers have tags at the end of the post is simply to gain a reciprocal link with technorati (the Google of blogs). So for example, if I tagged my post “Internet Marketing”, first of all the tag is obviously a link I give to technorati. And in return, technorati will have a link back to my post under the search term “Internet Marketing”.
One caveat, technorati will always show the latest posts for each given term. So for a term like Internet Marketing, that would be a pretty hot term. Which means that it is constantly being updated and so your post wouldn’t probably last long on the 1st page of technorati.
So anyway, the gist is, you place tags because you want to appear on technorati’s results, so you get traffic from there. And you want to pick a less competitive tag so you can last longer on the first page of results, which means more traffic for you.
I’ll give you a quick tip on how to improve your blog – Simply model the BEST blogs out there. Observe where and how they place their adsense, see what plugins or widgets they use. Notice how they write their posts, or how they connect with their audience.
But don’t just follow blindly though. For example, just because some blog is using a certain plugin means you have to use it too. Think about whether adding something to your blog is going to increase your readers’ experience or is it just going to be a distraction?
Anyway, following real-life examples is always a great way to learn.
And yes, we will never finish learning.
if you want an easy way to tag your posts, I suggest using a plugin. Visit Michel Fortin’s blog for some great tips.
