Over-Eager Salespeople

I was out shopping for a ceiling fan for my new room last week (yes, I’m shifting…) and I walked into one fan shop along Jalan Besar to browse around.

Immediately when I entered the shop, this really frenetic sales guy came up to me and asked what I was looking for. And so I told him I was looking for a ceiling fan. The moment I finished my sentence, this joker instantly started pointing this fan that was mounted on his shop and told me I could get that fan.

It was certified, reliable, long-lasting, blah blah blah, he kept on telling me how great that fan was and he kept on going on and on and on about why I should that fan of his. Man, he could talk!

And so I just stood there half-trying to understand what he was saying (he was speaking in mandarin… and I’m not very smart there) and half-trying not to look pissed/amused/bewildered all at the same time.

After about 5-10 minutes standing there, looking up at that fantastic fan, I walked away and my eyes started scanning around for another ceiling fan. The moment he saw I lost interest in that one fan and my eyes wandering, this sales guy immediately focused my attention on another great fan he had.

He actually physically pulled my arm over to another spot to look at this other fantastic fan he had, and of course he now started telling me how great this fan was, best in his shop, etc etc etc, so on and so forth.

Now I’m sure they were all great fans but the bloody problem was that I wasn’t interested in a blue, silver, brown.bronze, whatever fan. I was looking for a WHITE fan and this sales guy didn’t EVEN ask me “What type of fan am I looking for?”.

Duh…

It’s like going to the doctor because you have the flu, but before you have the chance to tell the doc what’s the matter, s/he tells you that you have bad case of diarrhea and you should take this medication blah blah blah. Would you visit a doctor like that?

So this sales guy was obviously clueless to what I was looking for in a ceiling fan, and he was just throwing darts left, right, and center hoping he’d hit the target. But he missed completely.

Anyway, I didn’t end up buying a fan that day because I wasn’t really interested in buying from someone who didn’t care to ask what I wanted, but was only focused on getting a sale.

Now, I’m sure he’s a great chap, a genuinely nice guy, honest hardworking bloke, etc etc etc. But he just needs to ask and listen, and he’d probably have sold me a decent fan that day.

By the way, I’m still looking for a nice ceiling fan. If you know of any good shop with ‘quiet’ salespeople, let me know. That’s be great.

assuming you went shopping just recently, my 1st thought will be the salesman is just trying to hit his sales quota since its end of the month (heck with your needs). proooobably get better service on other days but i kinda doubt it. ;)

as for the ceiling fan, have you tried the megacourts near pasir ris or even imm?
