3 Years On … What A Ride!

When I fist started this blog on a whim three years ago, I had no idea where this project was going to take me and where I was gonna end up. In fact, the only reason why I started this blog in the first place was because I didn’t know what else to do with the domain name I bought (www.Adam-Wong.com).

And the only reason I bought that too was because Internet marketers were telling me that that’s the very first thing you should buy because domain names are limited and you definitely want to own your very own name. You’ll never know when you’ll need it! And so I listened and paid.

That’s how this blog was born. And after coming across another blog which chronicled one particular young man’s journey to financial freedom, I thought I’d COPY it (shameless…) and do the same for me, but with an Internet marketing twist. I simply wanted to share my experiences with Internet marketing, the stuff and work I did, the results (and screw ups) I got, and ultimately have this whole blog be kinda like a public record of my journey online.

And now look at what has happened over the last 36 months…

Starting from nowhere, as an undergrad student who had never really achieved anything huge, this whole project has brought me to launch and run a successful Internet business, on my own time and freedom, work with an esteemed mentor, and at the same time, truly live the Internet lifestyle. I’ve generated six figure revenues online, written a top 10 bestseller and I think, most valuable of all, this entire experience has given me the belief to dream EVEN bigger dreams and know you can have them manifest! I’m definitely not stopping at where I am now.

I remember three years ago when I generated my very first dollars on the Internet — it was some adsense clicks that I was getting from some article sites that I laboured to set up. Back then, I was making about $5 a day and I was ECSTATIC!

Well, when you’ve never made any money online before and being a student receiving pocket money, creating $5 a day out of nowhere was like hitting the proverbial gold mine. I believe the very first cheque I received for my online efforts only amounted to, what… $136 — small amount of money, but at the same time, it was REAL money that I generated on the Internet.

And then the results grew. The very first product that I sold online made US$10,011 in a little 7 days from its launch. And the product wasn’t even mine to begin with! It belonged to my partner.

I still feel I was very lucky during that period because of the two big affiliates (that popped from out of nowhere — I know one of them now was David Vallieres) that helped to promote my product and really drive sales. The HUGE start really convinced me that maybe I had the chops to do this Internet marketing thing after all. If I didn’t have that big bang of a start, things may very well be different now.

BUT then at the same time, I’ll also say I did PREPARE for the luck that came my way. If you’ve read my story (click here), you’ll see that everything didn’t just fall neatly onto my lap. I had to work and strive as well for things to happen. Guess all that time fidgeting with html and constipating about copywriting was worth it after all!

If you’ve just come across this blog or have only been around for some time, then I’d like to share certain posts on this blog that highlight certain points in my journey from here to there.

Lucky Bastard Debuts At #6 On Bestsellers List!

You can go through all those posts (they’re in chronological order) and get a very good summary about how all this humble success I’ve achieved so far has come about. I still can’t believe some of the good and wonderful things that have happened to me on this journey.

For me, I guess the highlight of this entire project that started in (near!) desperation three years ago is my bestselling book – Lucky Bastard! It’s like a summation of what the heck I’ve been up to in my life and how I got to where I am today.

To have my first book hit #6 on the Sunday Times bestsellers list and stay Top 10 for three weeks (so far) is VERY VERY satisfying for me. I never ever thought I’d ever be a bestselling author — just goes to show how much you know about yourself and what you can do!

Well, I hope all of this inspires you to maybe do something you’ve always wanted to do yourself. It doesn’t have to be on the Internet, of course. For me, it just happened to be this way. But if my short little story can serve as a role model for your future one, I’ll be absolutely stoked for you.

Yes, I believed that pure luck didn’t fall on you. You CREATED that luck.

Since this may be the last post to “wrap up” your blog, what’s the next big project you are focusing on? Able to reveal some s-e-c-r-e-t-s? lol.

    Thanks Ray!

You won’t believe how many people are pulling that mentor stunt on me now after reading about it in my book! haha!

  10. Ray on May 16th, 2009

Hi Adam, thanks for the reply. I’m serious about the mentor thing and I understand you are a busy man but I believe we could work something out. I would genuinely appreciate if you could be my mentor because I have put my heart & soul into it and I’m determine to give it my best shot to succeed. And also because I know you are one of the best out in the market, being that done that, that’s why I’m inspired by you! Hope you will give it some serious consideration. Cheers!

    Hey Ray,

Of course! If you’re really serious, drop me an email and tell me exactly what your goals are and what you want to achieve. This MUST be specific. I’ll have a look and let you know. :)

I’ve had TOO many people emailing me they want mentors and help, but they’re expecting someone to come give them a magic pill and things will right itself.

Poeple, mentors can only help when you help yourself first! Adam Khoo couldn’t help me at the very start because I didn’t know what I wanted at all. It was only after I found something and got serious at it that AK REALLY helped me.

    Hi Adam,

Im Chan frm M’sia. I just bought your book ‘ Lucky Bastard”.Firstly, im totally a newbie for this kind of business. Is it enough this book for me to start the online business? and i also received your email about the video cd…This video cd just selling the hardcopy at Singapore only? M’sia got sell or not?

My suggestion why not you conduct Training or Talk at M’sia? This more convenient for your M’sia reader to attend your seminar and can understand more about tis business.

Honestly, im totally feed up about my lifestyle now. Now still finding a way to change my life and i trust you can chnage my life.

    Thank you….

    Best Regards,

    Hi SS,

First of all, thank you for picking up a copy! Is the book enough to get you started online — yes of course! The videos come along with every book purchase, details on how to get them are inside. I may do seminars in M’sia one day.. we’ll see. As for changing your life, you have the power to do it! Teachers are simply guides to help you along the way. :)
