Reader (You!) Questions

I thought I’d start a reader question thingy so that we get to share some information which other people may find useful as well. If you actually read the comments on this blog, you’d find that I take the time to answer questions left by readers (you!).

Sometimes I wonder if people know I actually reply to those questions via inserting my answers in the comment body. So to avoid that second guessing, I’ve decided to just post questions on the blog so that everyone gets to benefit from it.

So let’s start with the first one:

Hi Adam,

Can I just check with you something?
Does IE rejects all the cookies from clickbank?

Because I have been using Firefox all these while, and when I tried out the affiliate links that I wanted to promote, I can see my nick at the bottom of the clickbank payment page.

But I had a shock when I tried it in Internet Explorer yesterday… it reject the cookies, and there is no affiliate nick at the bottom. My security and privacy settings are all being at the default settings. I did a check and realised that my IE5 forbid any cookies from clickbank.net and many other “unsafe” websites.

Do you encounter this problem? Or is something wrong with my IE only? Hmmm…

Adam says:
By default IE shouldn’t reject cookies. I’ve been using IE and the affiliate info shows up fine on the clickbank order page. Check your cookie settings in IE, set them to the right level and things should be a-ok. (Oh no! I sound like geek technical helpdesk)

I have now learn to look at things from the bright side of every situation. Good posting and Adam, you really can write long article. Are you learning copy writing now?

Thank you.

Adam says:
Not really…

Dear Adam Wong,

I am a total newbie to the Internet world. Do you think I should engage with a mentor to avoid all the unneccessary mistakes I may be getting? I don’t even know how to create a webiste for my own. However I am very confident that I can make huge fortune online if I do the right thing (right product with right marketing) by listening for the advice from those who have succeeded before. For long that I’ve dreamed to have my own business, I guess the internet has provided me the lowest cost platform to do business. I hardly found any Internet mentor in Malaysia, or maybe I do not know. I have sent an email to Stuart but till todate received no reply from him. I guess he must be extremely busy. Pls advise. Tks.

Adam says:
Yes you should get a mentor, that always helps. But even if you don’t, so what? Carry on towards your goals and eventually a mentor will appear and want to work with you.

You can get advice from books, courses, searching on google, etc. You cannot just rely on your mentor to spoonfeed you the answers, you have to learn by yourself as well! No mentor wants to work with a person like that because obviously mentors know that that person isn’t wired for success yet. They want to guide someone who’s worth the time and effort. So make yourself worthwhile to them.

Next! (ok this one isn’t really a question, but I want to cover it)

just some comments. nice try but i dont think ur spunoff sillysoccerwebsites will be well received. it is afterall, leaching off youtube. try hosting the videos on ur own ftp. and the google ads on the sidebar makes the website look unprofessional and turns the user off. my suggestion would be to just leave the top and bottom ads and remove the sidebar. makes the overall design of ur page neater, more professional and slightly more click-tempting.

just my two cents worth, cheers.

Adam says:
Thank you for your feedback. Take a look at my friend’s site: www.thejapanesearecrazy.com It’s got an alexa rank of 28k+ (serious traffic) and it pulls in $xxx in adsense income a day (serious income). Not bad for ‘leeching’ videos.

And besides youtube wants you to ‘leech’ their videos (technically none of the videos are youtube’s, they’re all from users like you and me) or else why would they provide you with the embed code right smack middle and accessible on their website?

Please use it by all means to market your sites! No one’s stopping you from doing so.

Ok that’s it for this round.

Aunt Aggy sigining off.

    To Alex Yeow,

It doesn’t matter that you are a newbie to IM. I’m probably not the best person to give advice, but here’s my opinion. You don’t have to know how to create a website to get started. All of us had (as for me, will have) humble beginnings to start from so any website with text is good enough to start with.

Listening to advice is good. Just remember to be careful where you buy your advice from and think it through. In Malaysia, depending where you live, the more well known IM guys are Patric Chan if you live up north, and Gobala Krishnan if you live at KL. There are more of them who are successful like Edmund Loh and others but I have no experience with them.

You don’t have to wait for a mentor. You can start networking with other rising internet marketers (my word for IM newbie) and learn & earn. Yours truly is one of such people, looking for other IM people to work together with.

    Ty Teh.

Thanks you for your effort to reply us… :)
I guess those who using anti spyware spybot will get immunize by it. And it blocked Clickbank and many other so call “unsafe” websites”. So i guess if a user is using IE6 and he have a spybot installed in his comp, we won’t get our affiliate commission. hMMMM
